1. Describe the details of your work experience and/or community service: Where was it? What were your duties and responsibilities?
I worked on a Mural in the Library at Ecole Panorama Ridge Secondary. My responsibilities were to follow the head artist's instructions on what to paint and how to paint it. I also helped set up paint trays, clean paint trays, clean brushes and rollers, mix paint and give constructive feedback to the head artist and the other artists. I was responsible for creating different images in the mural and making sure they align with what the head artist imagined when creating the draft of the mural.
2. Identify and comment on the Fundamental Skills used or developed in your work experience and/or community service.
I learned that communicating is a vital fundamental skill used and developed in helping with the Mural. I had to listen and communicate with the leader of the project, and the other helpers. At first, it was difficult to communicate to the other helpers about their art styles. The further along the project went, the more capable I was to talk to the painter about collaborating our art styles and skills. It was also easier to assign tasks to group members and talk to the leader of the project about different ideas and details to add to the mural. Communication was vital to decide who mixes paint, and who cleans the different materials for the day.

3. Identify and comment on the Personal Self-Management Skills used or developed in your work experience and/or community service.
While working on the Mural, I had to be positive about the work I was doing, and the work other people were doing. Even though there were some duties I was not happy doing, for my team and the school, I had to keep a positive attitude in order to complete the work. Working with your friends for many hours is exhausting. It is important to be patient with others and understand they go at their own pace. I had to stay positive in order to encourage others with their work, and to maintain the healthy relationships among my peers in the group. I also needed to create time constraints on the work I was to complete. Due to many people working on the same project in a small area, I needed to be efficient with my work so other group members can continue working in the areas above or below me. It was also important I completed certain work by the end of a day in order to add details in next day's time.
4. Identify and comment on the Teamwork Skills used or developed in your work experience and/or community service.
Collaborating on different duties was a big part of my volunteer experience. Since many people worked on the mural at the same time, it was hard to collaborate on different art styles. One challenge I faced was creating the people in the mural. The team did not know of they would want the people to look realistic or to create them like a cartoon, and what would look better as a whole in the mural. In the end, the team ended up with a great collaboration which turned out fantastic. A big part of working with others on an art project is respecting each other's work. This was a great challenge because I did not want to hurt other group member's feelings. If a group member painted a piece of the mural and it looked not like we imagined it to look, we had to respectfully inform them of what we imagined and provide them with tips on how to improve. This skill will help me greatly in the future with other work and volunteer expirences.
5. Reflect upon what you have learned in your work experience and/or community service. Discuss how your strengths and/or weaknesses played a role in the success of this endeavour. Comment on how you and the community have benefited.
Volunteering for working on the Mural taught me many things about teamwork. Without working on the Mural, I would not have learned the importance of communication, especially with working on subject like art. It is vital to inform team members about thoughts, feelings, and possible improvements while being respectful about each other's' art. It was difficult for me to communicate to others about improving on work and adding details. It was also hard for me to encourage myself that I was doing a good enough job. I thought I really helped encouraging others along the way with their art and staying positive about completing the Mural. Luckily, the community now has a beautiful piece of art that staff and students of Panorama Ridge can enjoy.
